  9. A MacIntosh Type 1 font for cartoonists and (converted to PC TrueType
  10. format) for use with Windows 3.1  After studying many different styles
  11. of lettering used in the comics, I saw enough of a "common thread" to
  12. have the keyboard (with a few adjustments) replace the bulk of lettering
  13. done by pen & ink. Listed as quality shareware by Aldus Magaine 3/93 in
  14. an article titled "Type, Tomes and Tools," Page 15.

  16. The "thread" consists of two basic concepts. First, cartoonists tend to
  17. use all caps (avoiding ascenders & descenders for design purposes).
  18. Secondly, they use a set of letters that represent dialogue (straight
  19. pen & ink lettering) and another representing expression (POW, BANG, Z
  20. Z-Z-Z, WHAM, etc.). ComicsCarToon is, as you will find, three all caps
  21. fonts in one (Dialogue & two sets of Expression on one keyboard). I felt
  22. two sets of expression styles were needed for variety by using one or
  23. the other or intermingled.

  25. To Install: Once in Windows 3.1 launch the Control Panel in the Main
  26. window. Select Fonts utility and click on the Add...Button. Choose the
  27. drive and/or directory to locate he TrueType font (.TTF file). Your font
  28. should appear in the Installed  Fonts window. Close the dialog box. 
  29. You shouldn't have to restart Windows.

  31. Try and ENJOY!.......then if you use and enjoy, honor the shareware fee
  32. of $14. If you SHARE this font, please include all files and documents
  33. in one folder. I currently teach drawing, painting, printmaking, year
  34. book DTP, and commercial art to future artists, possibly typographers
  35. (alias) high school students; and produce serious art for local,
  36. regional and national juried exhibitions. I enjoy receiving copies or
  37. samples of works in which my fonts are used. I show them to students so
  38. they can see what real people are doing in DTPublishing today.

  40. Dialogue is all caps and made with lc keys: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
  41. 1234567890 -=;',./ also,
  42. Use Shift for !@#$%&*()+:"? <(superscript 00) >(superscript 99);
  43. and use Option for àâäaåçéèêë (diacriticals, if needed) or bullets or
  44. legal symbols.etc.

  46. The first set of Expression style is all caps made with the shift key:
  47. use the Shift for ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ and (_) is a dash.

  49. The second set of Expression is all caps made with the Option-Shift
  50. keys: use the Option-Shift keys for ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
  51. 1234567890 and . , . ? " = and (\ is :);
  52. and use Option for & ( ) , . ' ! ( \ is ;) (m is m-dash) and (d is $).

  54. Use for cartooning, eye-catching notices, ad display or to convey
  55. spontaneous, impulsive expression. Use for copy needing to convey messages of the cartoonist. Instead of reaching for the pen and India
  56. ink to print dialogue inside balloons, reach for the keyboard, click
  57.  away, and then surround with a balloon.

  66. Since creating my first font SnyderSpeed Brush (11/91 v.1 upper case 
  67. only), the encouragement of shareware fees and/or input from users, 
  68. allowed me to update SnyderSpeed by adding lower case (1/92), plus 
  69. create OregonWet (on AOL's Nov. 91 top download's list), OregonDry,  
  70. MarkerFeltThin 2/92, MarkerFeltWide 4/92 (used by Aldus Magazine's "New 
  71. Comics" article, pgs.18-20 July/Aug '92 issue) and StarsAndStripes 7/92;  
  72. updates to MarkerFelt Thin v2, MFWide v2 and (SnyderSpeed Brush v3  9/92
  73. and ComicsCarToon 10/92 (featured in Aldus Magazine 3/93), both top 
  74. downloads; NeedlePointSew 11/92; MarkerFinePoint 3/93. Fonts are
  75. available both in Type 1 and  True Type Formats on AOL and CServe for
  76. the Mac.

  78. *4/93 fonts converted for PC use with Windows 3.1 in TType format and
  79. planned for uploading by May1993 via CServe modem, DTP forum; and in
  80.  Oregon via Night OWl BBS (503) 267-4338 which to date has no connect
